The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? (Psalm 27:1)
Light symbolises life (John1:4). The first thing that God said after He has created the heavens and the earth was ‘let there be light’ (Gen 1:2). This tells me that God does not want you and me to live in darkness. Darkness, as we know, represents any form of calamity, sorrow, distress, rejection, fear, perplexity and death. May you never live in darkness in the name of Jesus (Amen).
David recognises the importance of light when he says “the Lord is my light”. Light is absolutely indispensable to your daily living– without it, you cannot see what is around you. Even when physical danger is hanging or coming toward you, you may not see it without the presence of a light. However, if your environment is flooded with light, especially when the light is the light of God, you will not only see the physical danger but also the spiritual ones. I pray that the light of God will overshadow your life in the name of Jesus.
Apart from you having divine ability to see a spiritual danger, another important thing that the light of God can do in your life is that it can terminate every iota of fear that may be hidden in your life and gives you divine boldness to achieve those things that God has destined for you. For example, when the light of God completely enveloped Peter, his fears disappeared and he became a renowned world evangelist, who preached a single message and 3000 souls were saved (Act 2:40-41).
Finally, David mentioned another important thing in Psalm 27:2. He said, “when the wicked even my enemies came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumble and fell”. This tells me that there is a victory in the light. In John 1:5 (ESV), the scripture says “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it”. When you allow God to flood your life with the light of his word, your victory over the works of darkness is sure. It does not matter the number of enemies that rise up against you, they are all bound to fall.
Remember that Jesus Christ is the light (John 8:12, John 1:9). If you surrender the lordship of your life to him, He will fill you with his light and darkness will never have dominion over you.
